The shrine forms an important part of Hinduism, and is considered to be one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism. The cave is surrounded by snowy mountains. The cave itself is covered with snow most of the year except for a short period of time in summer when it is open for pilgrims. Hundreds of thousands of Hindu and other devotees make an annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave across challenging mountainous terrain.

Darshan Day
- Early in the morning proceed to Sonamarg, arrive in Baltal and proceed for the holy Amarnath Cave by helicopter .
- Numerous devotees flock to Amarnath for the holy Amarnath Yatra every year. The cave houses a stalagmite of Shiv Linga (12,756 ft) and is considered as a sacred site by the Hindus
- The helicopters usually start operating at 6 AM (depending on the weather) and there will be approximately 1 hour for Darshan. Priority passes for Darshan will be provided to you.
- After darshan, return to Baltal via helicopter and be transferred to Sonamarg Hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.
